Carmelo Anthony's career is in limbo. The forward was released by the Houston Rockets last month and he's still on the free agent market.

Think about that for a second: nobody wants a future Hall of Famer who just made the All-Star team two years ago. That just tells you how far Anthony has fallen.

One team that has been rumored as a potential landing spot for Anthony is the Los Angeles Lakers.

It makes sense. After all, Anthony is one of LeBron James' best friends and Tyson Chandler knows Anthony very well from their days together with the New York Knicks.

That being said, while James and Chandler might want Anthony on board, that does not necessarily mean that Magic Johnson and the Lakers' front office are going to follow suit.

Chandler knows this, and he understands the possibility that this could be it for Melo, according to Michael Scotto of The Athletic:

“I hate for him to end his career this way. I’m pretty sure this is not on his terms. A guy like that and what he’s done for the game you just hope he gets his opportunity to finish in the right way.”

Now obviously, nothing is set in stone, but those don't sound like the words of someone who believe that Carmelo is going to be their future teammate.

It's not like there is much of a place for Melo on the Lakers, either. They are already pretty full of scorers like LeBron, Kyle Kuzma and Brandon Ingram and throwing a ball-stopper like Anthony into the mix might not be so good for that group.

Could this be the end for Melo?
