Sunday afternoon will showcase this elite Eastern Conference matchup! It's time to continue our NBA odds series with a Celtics-Wizards prediction and pick.
The Boston Celtics are not in a good spot right now. They are coming off of a bad loss to the Portland Trail Blazers, who didn't have Damian Lillard. They are 23-24 which puts them 10th in the East. The Washington Wizards are having a somewhat better season than the Celtics. They are 23-23 which puts them ninth in the East. These two teams are even in a lot of ways but one thing is for sure, nobody predicted either team to be where they are at right now. This should have the intention of being a good game to watch.

Why The Celtics Could Cover The Spread
Boston should have no issue covering this spread on the road in this one. They are coming off a loss, but they are the better team. You never know what you are going to get on a nightly basis with this team. That is a huge problem, but at the same time, they have proven to compete with anyone. They have beaten the Milwaukee Bucks, Phoenix Suns, and Chicago Bulls, but they lose to the Trail Blazers and got swept by the San Antonio Spurs. They just can't stay consistent unless it's losing to bad teams.
Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown are two superstars who will not put up with this kind of losing anymore. They want to win badly and they have the means to lead the team to wins. They just need the rest of the team to show up. The problem is they have a rookie head coach in Ime Udoka, and he doesn't have a lineup he trusts. He's constantly trying out new lineups and playing guys with other guys, this is a team that can not excel that way. They need to really figure out a rotation best for the team so that they can get on a winning streak. For now, they are just barely squeezing by.
If they want to cover this spread against the Wizards, they must contain Bradley Beal and find a way to get consistent production from the bench.

Why The Wizards Could Cover The Spread
Washington comes into this game as the underdogs at home. They have the better record by a half-game right now. They have lost their last two games to the Brooklyn Nets and Toronto Raptors by a combined five points. The Wizards are staying in games and that is a good sign for them moving forward. Nobody predicted them to have a winning record or close to it, but they are .500 right now and can go back over it with a win at home on Sunday.
Washington can cover this spread with their defensive efforts. They must contain Tatum and Brown all game long. They can still win even if they play well because the Celtics have proven they can not finish games. With that being said, the Wizards just need to keep with game close going into the fourth quarter and they will have a solid chance of covering this spread. Home-court advantage matters in the NBA and the Wizards will need to take advantage of that in this game. Boston is just 8-14 on the road this season while the Wizards are 13-10 at home. If Bradley Beal and Kyle Kuzma are playing well, they should cover this spread.

This isn't an easy pick but I'm going with the Celtics to cover this spread. This is a win they need badly to get back to .500. If they win this game they will jump the Wizards in the standings. Pick the Celtics and hope Tatum and Brown can close out this game on the road.
