The Memphis Grizzlies will face the Denver Nuggets in a battle of premier Western Conference teams. It's time to continue our NBA odds series and make a Grizzlies-Nuggets prediction and pick.

The Grizzlies don't have all that much to play for in this game. Memphis has already clinched the second seed in conference, making this meeting essentially meaningless to them. The Nuggets, on the other hand, have plenty at stake here. Denver currently has a two-game lead on the Minnesota Timberwolves for the sixth seed while trailing the Utah Jazz and the fifth seed by two games. It's possible that the Nuggets move by one seed in either direction, making this game an important one. Regardless of the stakes behind this game, it should be an entertaining one. Let's get into the pick.

Why The Grizzlies Could Cover The Spread

The prolific Memphis offense should dominate in this matchup. The Grizzlies average 115 points per game, the second-highest number in the league. Head coach Taylor Jenkins' squad relies on a fast break-based offense that capitalizes off of turnovers and poor transition defense. The Nuggets happen to commit nearly 15 turnovers per game, one of the worst numbers in the NBA. They have also been terrible at stopping opposing fast breaks, as they allow 12 fast break points per contest, another one of the worst numbers in the league. Overall, this looks like a great matchup for the Memphis offense.

These teams have already played each other three times, with the Grizzlies winning every single meeting. They don't even need to win this game, as they enter this game as underdogs. Memphis is 18-9-1 against the spread when they enter the game as the underdog, with an 11-7-1 record ATS as road underdogs. The Nuggets have been one of the worst teams in the league at covering the spread, as they own an overall record of 36-44. Denver is also 22-30 against the spread as a favorite.

Why The Nuggets Could Cover The Spread

The Grizzlies will be missing a couple of key players here. Superstar point guard Ja Morant is dealing with a long-term knee injury, so he obviously won't play. Starting forward Dillon Brooks will also probably miss this game with a hip injury, as there's no sense in rushing him back into action for a meaningless game. Memphis has had success despite Morant's absence, but this is a small spread against a Denver team that has won four of their last six games. The absences of Morant and Brooks could be enough for the Nuggets to pull off a cover here.

It's important to remember what each team has at stake. The Grizzlies are literally playing for nothing in this game. Their starters shouldn't take on heavy workloads, especially if they're dealing with a double-digit deficit late in the contest. The Nuggets have plenty to play for, so their best players should be on the floor throughout the entire game, including deep into the fourth quarter is necessary. That could be the difference between covering and losing here.

Final Grizzlies-Nuggets Prediction & Pick

It's hard to trust the Grizzlies when they're missing key players in a completely meaningless game. They could pull their starters at any time, while the Nuggets are far more likely to play their guys until the end. Take Denver to defend their home floor and cover.

Final Grizzlies-Nuggets Prediction & Pick: Denver Nuggets: -4.5 (-110)
