Jurickson Profar and the San Diego Padres had the last laugh in Tuesday's matchup against the Washington Nationals at PETCO Park. Thanks to Profar's big night, San Diego came away with a 9-7 victory to stay undefeated in the series. Profar gave his team a huge lift in the sixth inning when he launched a bases-clearing home run that extended San Diego's lead to five runs.

That grand slam by Profar also further improved his legend as some sort of a bases-loaded specialist. Over his last six at-bats with the bases loaded up, Profar has hit two grand slams, three 3-run doubles, and a two-run single. He also has become just the second big league player over the last five decades to have at least 19 RBIs over a span of six-at bats with men in each base, according to OptaSTATS.

That's what the@Padres' Jurickson Profar has done over his last 6 AB with the bases loaded. Only one other MLB player in last 50 years has had 19+ RBI over a span of 6 bases-loaded AB: Albert Pujols (19).

Profar and Padres fans surely cherished every moment of his home run, as it took place just five innings after he and Nationals catcher Keibert Ruiz had a heated moment that led to both benches clearing up.

The Nationals scored three unanswered runs after Profar's dinger but Washington's effort wasn't enough to overcome the big lead established by San Diego, which has improved its record to 43-41. Having won six of their last seven games, the Padres will look to extend their win streak to three games while also sweeping Washington in the series this Wednesday when San Diego hands the ball to Dylan Cease.

Profar is having a solid year so far in 2024. On the season, he is hitting .317/.410/.488 with 11 home runs and 54 RBIs. In addition, .898 OPS is the best among all qualified San Diego hitters. The 31-year-old Curaçaoan is in his second stint with the Padres. He first suited up for the National League West division club in 2019 when he was traded to San Diego by the Oakland Athletics. In 2023, he signed a deal with the Colorado Rockies but got released just months later. That led to his eventual reunion with the Padres, who signed him to a one-year, $1 million contract that in retrospect looks like a fantastic bargain for San Diego.
