The ongoing sentiment around the league has been that there are only three serious contenders in the Anthony Davis lottery, with those teams being the Los Angeles Lakers, Boston Celtics, and New York Knicks.

However, there is one team that could be on the periphery of being a legitimate threat to snag Davis away from New Orleans: the Portland Trail Blazers.

According to Basketball Insiders, sources around the league say the Trail Blazers have been aggressive in their search to bring in another star player to go along with their backcourt of Damian Lillard and CJ McCollum.

Portland could definitely piece together a desirable package for New Orleans if they wanted to make a serious run at getting a deal done. The most valuable pieces at the Blazers disposal are their first-round picks, of which they still have all of their own.

Without highly valuable young players to send out, they would likely have to be willing to part with at least two or three picks just to get their foot in the door.

It may seem crazy, but as evidenced by Houston offering four picks earlier this season for Jimmy Butler, sometimes it is worth it to get a proven star added to an already successful team.

In terms of players, Jusuf Nurkic would likely headline the offer. Having multiple years on his contract that has potential to become an underpay, he is their best roster piece to offer.

They could combine him with expiring contracts and young players like Caleb Swanigan and Anfernee Simons, or even throw in salary and take back some unwanted money from the Pelicans, like Solomon Hill.

The Trail Blazers have options, and a player like Davis would definitely help the current 4th seed in the Western Conference get over the hump and have a real chance to make some noise.
