A feature we're all used to on Netflix is possibly about to disappear.

With a new focus on tags, the iconic match percentage, which tells you if it is your taste of viewing, might be gone soon, IndieWire reports.

Netflix likely to drop match percentage display

It wants to switch to Tags, which will display at the bottom of a title. For example, it may say Adventure or Romance.

Allan Donald, a director of products at Netflix, told the New York Times about their tagging endeavor.

“Imagine magazines that have no cover lines, and there were just photographs on them,” he said. “Tags make as much of a difference as a cover line in that snap ‘this is for me' decision.”

The streamer has over 3K tags. The various phrases range in a variety of things, and there's always talk of merging tags into one.

Algorithms make a huge difference, and they're always evolving. Removing the match percentage and focusing on tags seems like a natural evolution. Do you remember when they had a 5-star rating system? That's long gone and was replaced with the thumbs up and thumbs down.

Plus, it could help viewers get more decisive on what to watch — which seems to be ultimately the goal. If there's a particular tag that a subscriber is fond of that does match up to what they'd enjoy, it could lead to a whole day of binge-watching.

An interesting, fun fact is Netflix has 30 employees who work in the tag department. So, they must be hardcore about implementing them correctly.
