The Brooklyn Nets could wind up getting major payback for that top pick that was snagged from their hands years ago from the Boston Celtics, as they have set their sights on big man Al Horford, who recently opted out of his $30.1 million player option, according to A. Sherrod Blakely of NBC Sports Boston.

The Nets have also expressed interest in signing Kyrie Irving as a free agent and are currently considered the frontrunners to acquire him in July.

The original report by ESPN's Adrian Wojnarowski suggested Horford would have mutual interest in hammering out a deal with the Celtics, but hours later it became known that Horford would have a list of teams inquiring about his services.

Big Al is likely looking to milk one last long-term deal out of his career. At 33 years old, he's already showed slight signs of slowing down, playing a career-low 29 minutes per game this past season.

While there is interest, some think it would be rather unlikely to see Horford and Irving on the same team again, given the complete chemical disarray the Celtics had last season, as they navigated their way to the fourth seed in the playoffs.

Horford is also looking for at least a three-to-four-year deal that can be worth close to $100 million, which could negate the Nets' ability of signing two max-level free agents in the summer. Couple that with a growing talent in Jarrett Allen, and it's likely that Brooklyn is only surveying the waters as a means of due diligence.
