The Brooklyn Nets small forward DeMarre Carroll remains questionable to return to the starting lineup for Tuesday night’s game against the Phoenix Suns due to a sore right ankle.

Carroll, who arrived in Brooklyn this offseason because the Toronto Raptors wanted to rid themselves of the $30 million left on his contract, has been one of the big surprises for the Nets so far this season. He’s averaging 14.2 points and 6.3 rebounds per game and went four consecutive games with at least 17 points.

Carroll already missed the Nets’ 124-111 home defeat to the Denver Nuggets. Allen Crabbe was ineffective in taking Carroll’s place in the starting lineup as he scored just eight points in 27 minutes. Joe Harris did chip in with 16 points in 23 minutes off the bench.

After a strong start to the season, the Nets are now in the middle of their first losing streak following losses to the Nuggets and the New York Knicks. Aside from injuries to Carroll and Quincy Acy, they’ve also lost Jeremy Lin for the season after he suffered a knee injury on opening night.

Meanwhile, D’Angelo Russell has not gotten back to his best since returning from a knee injury, although he claims he’s 100 percent healthy.
