The Brooklyn Nets have been on a roll lately. They have won five straight and eight of their last ten games overall. However, they're about to be tested as one of their key contributors, Spencer Dinwiddie is thinking about surgery to repair some torn ligaments in his thumb.

Head coach Kenny Atkinson has already indicated that surgery is imminent, despite the fact that Dinwiddie is still able to play and produce his usual numbers. Atkinson added that the final decision would be between Dinwiddle, his family, and the team doctors.

The Nets coach also added that the 25-year old might have suffered the injury two months ago and just decided to play through it.

If Dinwiddie does indeed decide to undergo surgery, he could miss a significant amount of time. It is worth noting that Houston Rockets' Clint Capela is expected to miss 4-6 weeks due to a similar injury.

Losing Dinwiddie for a month or two could really hurt Brooklyn's chances of holding on to the sixth spot in the Eastern Conference playoffs. His 17.2 points and five assists per game average has been a large part of the team's success this season. In addition, missing a significant amount of time would also put him out of contention for both the Sixth Man and Most Improved Player of the Year awards.

However, if Dinwiddie decides to keep playing despite the injury, the damages to his thumb ligaments continue to get worse, and he could miss more than two months if he doesn't go for surgery as early as possible.
