Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving just cleared the NBA's health and safety protocols on Tuesday, and both he and Nets head coach Steve Nash talked to the media on Wednesday about his situation.

Nash said that, all things considered, Irving looked pretty darn good. Irving himself said he spent time playing pickup to stay in shape, though this was his first time in a while playing against pros. Still, it felt natural getting back out there:

Nets fans should certainly be thrilled about these developments. Irving hasn't played yet this season because of New York's COVID-19 vaccine mandate. Brooklyn decided Irving wouldn't be a part-time player, but they recently changed course and welcomed him back into the fold. While he's currently still only slated to play on the road as he remains unvaccinated, having him back at all should be a plus.

Of course, Irving isn't set to return right away. It's going to take some time to ramp up and get back to game shape, which the Nets star fully understands:

Despite the absence of Irving and a number of other health issues, the Nets are in first place in the Eastern Conference with a 23-9 record. Kevin Durant is set to return from protocols on Thursday, and James Harden has been looking more like himself of late. With Irving coming back as well, even if it's just as a part-time player, Brooklyn is set to look like a juggernaut soon.
