Jan. 26, 2021 will mark the first year anniversary of the untimely passing of Los Angeles Lakers legend Kobe Bryant. Having had a close personal relationship with the fallen legend, Brooklyn Nets superstar Kyrie Irving was one of the many who were deeply affected by the tragedy last year. To honor the Black Mamba on his death anniversary, Kyrie came into Brooklyn's game rocking an OG Purple & Gold Kobe Bryant jersey.

Here's a look at Irving entering the arena in his Lakers uni (h/t Brooklyn Nets on Twitter):

As Kyrie said above, there was no doubt as to his wardrobe of choice on this particular evening.

Irving, who considered Kobe to be one of his biggest idols growing up, ended up forming a special bond with Bryant as an adult. Kobe became his mentor, and for his part, Kyrie truly appreciated everything the Hall of Famer taught him.

At this time last year, upon learning of his good friend's tragic death, Irving was left in complete shock. He ended up not being able to take the court for the Nets' scheduled game on that evening, as he later on admitted that he was emotionally unfit to do so.

This time around, however, Irving will definitely suit up for Brookyln. The Nets are set to face off against the defending Eastern Conference champions, the Miami Heat on Monday, and for Irving, it will be an opportunity to honor the late, great Kobe Bryant on the basketball court.
