After leading his team to a 10-point win on Wednesday against the Detroit Pistons, Brooklyn Nets point guard Kyrie Irving spoke on the tragic death of former Los Angeles Lakers superstar Kobe Bryant.

Bryant passed away this weekend after a helicopter crash took his life and eight other passengers, including his 13-year-old daughter Gianna Bryant.

Irving, who was overcome with emotions prior to his team's game, once again struggled to hold back his tears after the game.

“His seeds that he's planted in all of us, they'll continue to grow and obviously his legacy is going to live on forever,” Irving said of Kobe Bryant. “That man was a philosopher, he was a teacher. He left so many great things here for us to follow and I'm just going to continue to carry the torch.”

The Nets point guard ended the game with 20 points on 7-of-16 shooting to go along with five assists and five rebounds.

Irving has had to deal with injuries for the majority of this season. The six-time All-Star has played in just 18 of the Nets' 46 games this 2019-20 campaign thus far.

In the games that he has played in, however, the 27-year-old point guard has been fantastic. In his first season with the Nets, Irving is averaging a career-high 27.2 points, 6.7 assists and 5.2 rebounds per game on 46/37/92 shooting splits.

Mainly due to the injuries to Kyrie Irving and All-NBA small forward Kevin Durant, the Nets have failed to live up to expectations. Although Durant wasn't expected to play this season, Brooklyn now sits at 20-26 on the season as they hang onto the last playoff spot in the East.
