The long wait for Kyrie Irving's return to action for the Brooklyn Nets is about to be over. According to Shams Charania of The Athletic, Irving is expected to take the floor for the first time in the 2021-22 NBA season on Wednesday against the Indiana Pacers on the road.

Brooklyn Nets star Kyrie Irving is expected to make his season debut Wednesday on the road against the Indiana Pacers, sources tell @TheAthletic@Stadium. After missing the Nets’ first 35 games of the season, Irving has targeted Wednesday for his return.

Irving and the Nets had previously agreed that he can join the team and play only in road games; he can't see any action when his team is in Brooklyn due to New York's COVID-19 vaccine mandate.

The former no. 1 overall pick is unvaccinated against the virus and has not backed down a bit from his stance, even if it obviously meant that he could potentially miss a season. He was also supposedly expected to play earlier, but he entered the league's health and safety protocols together with Kevin Durant, thus delaying his much-awaited comeback.

Presuming that Irving will play against the Pacers, it will be the first game as well that the Nets will have their super triumvirate of Irving, Durant, and James Harden all available.

The Nets are on a two-game losing skid and could certainly use a boost from Irving.
