Kyrie Irving has yet to play a home game for the Brooklyn Nets this season. He chose not to get vaccinated against COVID-19, and there is a vaccine mandate across New York City for indoor spaces. This mandate includes the Nets' home court in the Barclays Center.

However, NYC Mayor Eric Adams said Wednesday that he is looking forward to making an announcement on removing the mandate “in the next few weeks.”

Nets' head coach Steve Nash discussed the possibility of Irving being eligible for home games in the near future. He emphasized the star's excitement after practice on Wednesday, according to ESPN.

“He's been extremely locked in…Kyrie's been great on the practice floor. He's been great in film sessions. He's been creating dialogue over aspects of our play. So I sense a real focus and urgency from him. And so if that's any indication, I would say he is getting excited at the prospect of being allowed to play in all our games and hopefully in the short term.”

This is great news for the Nets, who are working on rebuilding their roster after acquiring three players from the Philadelphia 76ers a few weeks ago. The Nets could potentially get Irving back into the starting rotation for the last few home games of the regular season. This would allow the team to find a new rhythm with their stars and their new players ahead of a potential playoff run.
