The Brooklyn Nets put forth a historically bad performance in their 94-82 loss to the lowly New York Knicks on Thursday night. During the lopsided game, an image of Kevin Durant and Kyrie Irving looking forlorn on the bench spread throughout social media.

Understandably, NBA Twitter had a field day with the image, mocking the two superstars for their sad appearances:

One had the genius to add filmmaker and beloved Knicks fan Spike Lee to the image, making it seem like he was taunting them for their decision to join the wrong borough:

Others were just making fun of the fact that the Knicks were smashing the Nets after KD and Kyrie spurned New York:

While it's hilarious that the Nets suffered a terrible loss to the Knicks, a bit of perspective is in order. If both Irving and Durant were on the floor, Brooklyn would likely take care of business. Furthermore, the Nets are 16-14 and in the No. 7 spot in the Eastern Conference, while the Knicks are 8-24 and near the bottom of the league.

Brooklyn will be without both of its stars for the foreseeable future. Durant is still recovering from his Achilles injury and will not make a return for the entire season. Meanwhile, Nets head coach Kenny Atkinson confirmed that Irving's shoulder injury is still in the rehabilitation process.

It's impressive that Brooklyn has been able to perform this well in spite of the absence of the two stars. The club is patiently awaiting the return of Irving this season, and they're hoping to be title contenders next season once Durant is healthy and ready to roll again.
