Earlier in the 2018-19 season, Irving vowed to stay with the Celtics. However, the season didn't go as planned and the Celtics were hounded by chemistry issues — with Kyrie in forefront of the controversies surrounding the team.
Durant, meanwhile, leaves a championship-pedigree team in the Golden State Warriors. Nonetheless, he didn't leave the team with nothing, as he helped the Warriors complete a sign-and-trade for one-time All-Star and Nets guard D'Angelo Russell.
Golden State still employs All-Stars Stephen Curry and Draymond Green and re-signed Klay Thompson to the max, although their title odds seem dimmer in the post-Durant era.
Despite KD's hasty departure from the Bay Area, he still won two titles with the Warriors in three years — including winning both Finals MVP honors. Durant is now looking to rehab for a year while Kyrie gets acclimated in the outer borough. DeAndre Jordan is also set to join Durant and Kyrie, who both took a paycut to accommodate DJ's signing with the Nets.
