The New York Giants have a big test ahead of them as they face the Detroit Lions tomorrow. Daniel Jones and the rest of the Giants offense will be hard-pressed to perform against a team that they should have a shot of winning against. A loss would have a lot of Giants fans consider this season as a failure and one where they'll have to retool their entire roster.

The pressure to win will feel heaviest on Jones' shoulders. He's taken the starting quarterback role from longtime QB1 Eli Manning, but the rookie's performances so far leave a lot to be desired. He is still far from being the perfect signal-caller the team badly needs, but he can turn his poor performances around by taking this Week 8 victory.

One of the reasons why he needs to step up his game is the condition of the Detroit defense. They have one of the worst passing defenses in the entire NFL. They concede an average of 289 passing yards per game, the third-worst in the league. This kind of defense gives Jones all of the opportunities to throw the football and actually complete his passes.

Another reason for the Giants' demands for him to throw better can be pointed out to rusher Saquon Barkley. The explosive running back is an instrumental asset in the Giants' ability to keep the game close against the Arizona Cardinals last week, and the same can be expected from him this week. Moreover, opposing defenses will keep an eye on him, and former Giant Damon Harrison will be constantly on the lookout for the Pro-Bowler.

Barkley's dynamism on the ground and the air will be a great boon for Jones. Since the Lions will always have to look out for him, this will give Jones a precious few seconds to scour the field and make the right pass to help the team win.

Finally, the team expects him to perform because he's going to be the team's leading pass-caller for the foreseeable future. Of course, the entire team and fanbase understand that not all quarterbacks get to explode in the league immediately after their entry to the league. However, the team has come to expect great things from him after pulling off an incredible performance against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in Week 3.

Moreover, head coach Pat Shurmur has put his trust in the rookie. He understands that it's been a struggle to adjust to the NFL, but he's confident that Jones will be able to pull it off.

This is the perfect situation for Jones to show off. All he needs to do is make terrific passes and show everyone that he's worth the poor form the fans are enduring.
