Jon Gruden and the Oakland Raiders came into the 2019 NFL Draft needing to make some noise to get their franchise back into contention. The noise they made at the top of the NFL Draft was something that no one saw coming. With the No. 4 overall pick in the draft, the Raiders decided to take Clemson pass rusher Clelin Ferrell.

To say that people were surprised would be a major understatement. The word “shocked” would be the best word for the situation.

Ferrell is a quality player, but many thought that the Raiders would take a guy like Josh Allen. Allen is widely viewed as the best pass rusher in the draft. On the other hand, Ferrell was projected to go in the mid-to-late section of the first round.

Last season at Clemson, Ferrell ended up recording 55 total tackles to go along with 11.5 sacks, two defended passes, three forced fumbles, a fumble recovery, and a defensive touchdown.

Oakland fans are split on their reaction to this pick. Some love it, while others feel that Mike Mayock and Gruden blew their opportunity. One thing that fans will quickly learn about Ferrell is that he is an extremely hard worker and will do everything in his power to prove the franchise right.

Standing in at 6-foot-5 and 260 pounds, Ferrell will bring speed, athleticism, and a great personality to the table. Oakland is rebuilding their roster after having to trade Khalil Mack last offseason and this addition will help them do just that.

Even with all of the surprise surrounding this pick, Ferrell is a quality addition and could work his way into being a star in the future for the Raiders.
