The Dallas Cowboys hoped linebacker Randy Gregory would be eligible for the 2020 season, but that hope seems to be waning.

Gregory took to Twitter to voice his frustrations with the NFL's reinstatement process. The 27-year-old said he is “doing everything that is being asked of me” and also indicated he is in great physical and mental condition.

Gregory suggested in the tweet he is supposed to undergo testing for COVID-19 and is ready to be tested, but he feels the league is using the pandemic “as a way to prevent me from joining my team.”

The former second-round pick is clearly frustrated. As for the Cowboys, they are reportedly under the assumption Gregory will not be reinstated.

Gregory was suspended indefinitely in February of 2019 for violating the league's substance abuse policy. The suspension marked Gregory's fourth since being selected by the Cowboys in 2019, including a year-long suspension in 2017.

The former Nebraska product showed some flashes of potential in 2018, racking up six sacks and 15 quarterback hits despite being on the field for just 45 percent of all defensive snaps.

Dallas lost Robert Quinn in the offseason and had been mostly dormant in signing edge-rushers, with the hope Aldon Smith and Gregory would be reinstated. Smith will indeed be allowed to play again after being reinstated in May.

However, it does not appear Gregory will receive his reinstatement in time for the 2020 season.

The Cowboys will have to make due without the embattled Gregory, who clearly feels the NFL has done wrong by him in failing to reevaluate his case.
