The Philadelphia Eagles and New Orleans Saints just shook up the 2022 NFL Draft with a trade involving eight draft picks. ESPN's Adam Schefter reports the Eagles are trading pick Nos. 16, 19 and 194 in 2022 to the Saints for pick Nos. 18, 101 and 217 in 2022, plus a 2023 first-round pick and 2024 second-round pick. Philly now has the No. 15 and 18 picks in the first round, while New Orleans has 16 and 19.

Here's the trade in visual form:

Given the Eagles' abundance of first-round picks in the 2022 NFL Draft, they did pretty well here in terms of their asset war chest. While they're giving away a pair of firsts this season, they're getting one back to still have two and then getting another one for next year. To also get a third in 2022 and then a second down the road in 2024 is a good bit of business.

Philadelphia will now have a pair of first-round picks in 2023 as well as this year, and the assumption from many is that the franchise will be prepared to use draft capital on a quarterback next year if Jalen Hurts doesn't step up. The clock is ticking on Hurts, so he needs to prove he's worthy of being the franchise quarterback.

As for the Saints, some are questioning why they would give up so much to get into the first round of the 2022 NFL Draft. They could certainly use a franchise quarterback given the current starter is Jameis Winston, but this year isn't a particularly good year for quarterback prospects. However, perhaps New Orleans really likes one of the quarterbacks, or maybe there are other players being targeted.
