NFL commissioner Roger Goodell finds himself navigating uncharted waters amid the coronavirus (COVID-19) pandemic this offseason. As a result, it seems he has opted to take unprecedented action.

Goodell has been adamant about ensuring that the timeline for the 2020 NFL season stays win track. According to Andrew Beaton of the Wall Street Sports Journal, he has put his money where his mouth is by reducing his pay to $0:

While the NFL has ushered in salary cuts across the league, Goodell asked that he work free of charge, Andrew Fischer of Sports Business Journal:

It is safe to say that this is quite a drop-off from the more than $30 million Goodell was making per year up to this point. His efforts will be to help ensure that employees making less than $100,000 are not affected by the upcoming cuts.

The NFL has since revealed the reductions based on salary that will feature five percent for workers up to the manager's level, seven percent for directors, 10 percent for vice presidents, 12 percent for senior vice presidents and 15 percent for executive vice presidents. Fortunately, the 100 percent off the top from the commissioner should help pay some dividends.

It is no secret that Goodell's reputation throughout the league has taken its fair share of hits. Regardless, he has done a solid job of rolling with the punches and even acknowledged the hate by featuring the boos of fans during the virtual 2020 NFL Draft. His decision to work gratis during the ongoing pandemic is telling of how invested he is in a return to action.
