Prepare yourself for the rare NFL midseason blockbuster. According to reports, the Miami Dolphins, Houston Texans, and Washington Football Team are closing in on a three-team exchange that would send embattled QB Deshaun Watson to Miami and QB Tua Tagovailoa to Washington.

Rumors of a Watson-to-Miami trade have been swirling for weeks, despite the fact that Watson's playing status remains uncertain as he faces 22 civil lawsuits alleging sexual assault or misconduct. Watson, 26, has been inactive for gamedays this season, though he was present at camp and has been working at the team's facility.

Earlier on Wednesday, John McClain of the Houston Chronicle reported that the Texans and Dolphins were finalizing a Watson trade and could have a deal done this week.

“The Dolphins have been talking to the Texans about Watson off and on for months, and those talks have intensified into serious negotiations,” writes McClain. “After losing to Jacksonville in London — their fifth consecutive loss — the Dolphins seem more determined to finally execute the Watson trade.”

Both Houston and Miami currently sit at 1-5. Houston has turned to rookie QB Davis Mills, while the Dolphins started Jacoby Brissett under center for four weeks as Tagovailoa dealt with a rib injury. The 23-year old former No. 2 overall pick has a career 87.0 QB Rating and has thrown 14 touchdowns against 7 interceptions in 13 career starts.

Watson has a no-trade clause in the four-year, $156 million contract he signed in 2020, but has the Dolphins “high on his list” of landing spots, per McClain. Houston GM Nick Caserio reportedly wants three first-round picks and two second-rounders for Watson.

The Football Team's offense has struggled with Taylor Heinicke at the helm, who replaced injured veteran QB Ryan Fitzpatrick in Week 1.
