Chara was the 56th overall pick by the Islanders in the 1996 NHL Draft. He spent the first few seasons in New York before moving to Ottawa. After four seasons with the Senators, Chara joined the Boston Bruins. It was in Boston that his legend truly took on a life of its own.

Chara was one of the most dominant defensive players of his generation. His 6′ 9” frame, at 250 pounds, made him a force in front of the net. He was nearly immovable on the power play and was just as good at killing penalties. Chara helped the Bruins win the Stanley Cup in 2011. It was the sixth title for one of the Original Six franchises, but the first since 1972.

The former Bruins defenseman spent 13 years in Boston before moving on to the Washington Capitals in 2020. After one season in Washington, Chara rejoined the team that drafted him in what will possibly be his final season in the NHL.

Chara is a seven-time All-Star. He won the Norris Trophy as the league's top defenseman in 2008-2009 and finished top three six times.
