The Anaheim Ducks are heading into New Jersey tonight to take on the Devils as both teams are looking to improve on rough seasons. The Ducks head into this matchup on a two-game losing streak and find themselves four points outside of a playoff spot, but fighting for it with three other teams. The Devils on the other hand are far from a playoff team as they're just looking to get through the rest of this season and possibly make some moves at the trade deadline. With that, it’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Ducks-Devils prediction and pick.

Why The Ducks Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Anaheim Ducks had so much potential after they started off the season with a bang, but have considerably fallen off since then as they are now at the bottom of the playoff bubble race. Their offense has been a real struggle and they only score just 2.87 goals per game. The offense has struggled all season, but their defense has now officially unraveled as well, allowing 3.12 goals per game, including 12 goals in the last two games.

With that said, star goaltender John Gibson will look to find himself back in the net tonight as he has found himself the yips and continues to struggle since the All-Star break. He's currently holding a .907 save percentage and allowing 3.00 goals against per game. This is very rare behavior for Gibson as he's widely considered one of the better goaltenders in the league. He'll have to prove it tonight though against a Devils team that's playing with nothing to lose.

Why The Devils Can Cover The Spread/Win

The New Jersey Devils are 4-4 in their last eight matchups as they tend to trade off wins and losses each night. If that trend continues, they should get the win tonight as they lost to the Jets on Thursday. The Devils' offense has stepped up quite a bit this season, scoring 3.03 goals per game, but their defense is one of the worst in the NHL. They are allowing 3.50 goals per game as they allow opposing teams to find those open shots on the net. Goaltender Nico Daws will be the one looking to save that open shots tonight as he is sporting a .909 save percentage and allowing 2.68 goals against per game. He'll look to keep the trend going and get a win here tonight on home ice.

Final Ducks-Devils Prediction & Pick

Both of these teams are looking to improve on their not-so-great seasons, so this should be a pretty good matchup tonight. The Ducks are looking to keep their playoff hopes alive as they desperately need a win after losing back-to-back games. This could honestly go either way, but I like the Devils at home here tonight. I'm going to stick with their current winning trend where if it continues, we should see a Devils victory tonight. With that said, I also like the over in this game where both defenses are brutal and both goaltenders haven't been playing great lately. Overall, give me the Over at 6 (-122) before it goes up any higher.
