Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames have clinched a playoff spot but with a win tonight they would clinch the Pacific Division, giving them the number two seed overall behind the Avalanche. The Flames have played pretty strong in their last 10 games, going 7-2-1 but they've been beating up on weaker opponents during that time. The Flames are still a legitimately strong team, but their hopes for a big playoff run are slowly diminishing if they can't find wins against other playoff teams. This is also a road back-to-back game for them as they defeated the Blackhawks 5-2 last night. That means starting in net tonight for the Flames would be backup goaltender Dan Vladar. He's sporting a .905 save percentage on the year while allowing 2.76 goals against per game. He'll look to help his team secure the division tonight.

Why The Predators Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Nashville Predators have a golden opportunity here to take out a top team in the West at home tonight. They haven't been playing great lately, going 5-4-1 in their last 10 games, but are riding high in a wild-card position, tied with the Stars. The Preds play significantly better on home ice where they have gone 24-14-0 and are back up to full health as they look to finish the season strong and take the momentum into the playoffs. Starting in goal for the Preds will likely be Juuse Saros, who is repping a .920 save percentage while allowing 2.58 goals against per game. He'll look to help his team get an upset win here tonight and add some points to their total.

Final Flames-Predators Prediction & Pick

This may seem like an out of nowhere kind of pick, but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't intrigued by the Predators in plus money tonight. They haven't been playing amazing hockey as of late, per se, but now that we're at the end of the regular season, every point counts for the Preds. The Flames will battle hard, as they always do, but they're on the tail end of a road back-to-back and starting their backup goaltender. The Flames have also already secured a playoff position so their star players are sure to see less time on the ice than what they're typically used to. I think the Predators will take advantage and make them pay on home ice tonight. Give me the underdog Moneyline tonight.
