The Los Angeles Kings will look to get back on track after getting tripped up by the Boston Bruins. They are still very much in contention for the top spot in the Pacific Division, trailing the Calgary Flames by only three points. Meanwhile, the Dallas Stars are eyeing to add more points to their total to give their chances of entering at least the wild card picture in the West a boost. With that said, it’s a good time to check out our NHL odds series, which includes our Kings-Stars prediction, odds, and pick we have laid out below.

Why the Kings Could Cover the Spread

The Kings' blistering pace came to a screeching halt last Monday, as they greeted the new week in a 7-0 home loss at the hands of the Boston Bruins. Los Angeles simply didn't have it in that contest, but it was not because of a lack of effort, as the Kings outshot Boston, 34-32. They even had more 5-on-5 high danger shots and better 5-on-5 xGF% than the Bruins. It's just that they simply could not find the back of the net.

If anything, the Kings have managed to extend their streak of winning the shooting battle to 21 games. They could tie the record set by the New York Rangers in 2022 later tonight against Dallas, and their prospect of accomplishing is looking good based on the previous two meetings with the Stars. The Kings have massively outshot Dallas in two games this season, 86-50.

They defeated the Stars in the most recent showdown last December at home, 4-0., in which Los Angeles had more high-danger shot attempts, shots on goal, and xGF% that's almost a point higher than Dallas'. That's almost the same story in the October 2021 meeting between these teams, except that Los Angeles lost in that game in overtime, 3-2.

Still, the numbers in that game show the Kings are significantly dominating the possession battle and churning out more high-quality shots than the Stars. After getting chased by the Bruins, Jonathan Quick is likely to get another start Wednesday night. He's definitely had success this season against the Stars. He appeared in both Dallas games this season for the Kings and stopped all but three of the 50 total shots he faced from the Stars. Quick is 7-3-4 with a 2.46 GAA and .914 SV% in 14 road appearances this season.

Why the Stars Could Cover the Spread

Dallas rebounded from a 2-1 shootout road loss to the Nashville Predators by taking down the Buffalo Sabres at home Sunday, 4-2.  The Stars can't feel too happy about the game, as they gave up 40 shots to Buffalo while they only had 31. That's despite a great start for Dallas which outshot the Sabres 18-6 in the first period. Nevertheless, the Stars have momentum again and seem to be catching the Kings at just the right time.

With Los Angeles losing in its last outing and having just a day of rest while hitting the road for the start of four-game away trip, it appears that Dallas has a very ideal setup to beat the Kings anew. The Kings are just 2-6 in their last eight outings against teams with a record better than .500. They are also only 1-4 in their past five games in which they played after only a day of rest. And while Quick has had a rough outing in his last start against the Bruins, Jake Oettinger was sensational in the Sabres game.

Oettinger turned away 38 of 40 Buffalo shots, including four on the power play. He has been dependable between the pipes for the Stars lately, going 4-1-1 with just eight goals allowed on 189 shots faced over his last six appearances. He's also not surrendered more than two goals in any of those games during that span. Oettinger carries a 14-30-9 record this season at home. Looking to provide Oettinger with some goal cushion is the top line of Joe Pavelski, Jason Robertson, and Roope Hintz that has produced three goals in five games. Another top-six forward in Michael Raffl could still be hot after he scored two goals against the Sabres.

Final Kings-Stars Prediction & Pick

I like the Kings here against the puck line and even on the moneyline (+125 at FanDuel). The underlying stats in the two meetings the Kings and the Stars have had this season have me leaning on the former to pocket a victory this Wednesday night.

Final Kings-Stars Pick: Kings +1.5 (-215)
