This series is now tied as the home-ice advantage is moved to Dallas for game three as the Stars will host the Calgary Flames in the late game tonight. Game one and game two both ended in shutouts, keeping the games very low scoring. The series is due for an explosion of goals soon or later, could tonight be the night? It’s time to continue our NHL odds series with a Flames-Stars prediction and pick.

Why The Flames Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Calgary Flames have dominated their competition all year long, led by their dominating first line in Johnny Gaudreau, Matthew Tkachuk, and Elias Lindholm. However, in the first two games of this series, the Stars have stood their ground. The Flames have put up 55 shots so far and have only been able to score on the power play. With that said, the Flames are due to explode at some point, just like they've been doing all season, and it could easily be tonight's matchup. Jacob Markstrom is also starting in between the pipes tonight for the Flames as he's only allowed one goal on 38 total shots so far in the postseason. He'll look to get the Flames back in the win column as they can't afford to get behind the Stars, especially in Dallas.

Why The Stars Can Cover The Spread/Win

The Dallas Stars were the last team to clinch the playoffs in the West, but still found a way to avoid last place. The Stars are a weird team where they have a lot of talent on paper, but in reality are more of a one-trick pony. They have their first line, consisting of Jason Robertson, Roope Hintz, and Joe Pavelski, but beyond that, there's very not much production off the Stars' bench. So far in the series, the Stars have kept the Flames in check, with big thanks to goaltender Jake Oettinger, who will look to get another start tonight, of course. He's proved to be the clear number one goaltender for the Stars' future and will look to get another shutout tonight while the Stars are in a must-win scenario on home ice.

Final Flames-Stars Prediction & Pick

Ultimately, I think the Flames are going to win this series (surprise!), but based on the first few games of the series, it might be a lot closer than I first thought. Both of the first two games were very low-scoring and I think both teams are finally due to open the flood gates. I love the odds for the over in this game, especially since it's only listed at 5.5 total goals. (Hot take, I think the Flames can cover the over on their own tonight.) For some reason, I have a feeling of this game being a 4-3ish game tonight with lots of scoring in either direction. Hammer the over, give me that fantastic value.

Final Flames-Stars Prediction and Pick: Over 5.5 (+116)
