The Denver Nuggets are aggressively pursuing a meeting with star free agent forward LeBron James, hoping to convince him of a short-term fit with the team, according to Chris Mannix of Yahoo Sports.

“Denver has been in contact with James’ agent, Rich Paul, and has doggedly tried to position the team as James’ best option, the source said.”

The Nuggets are fresh of locking two of their key assets in the first few minutes of free agency, agreeing to terms with forward Will Barton (four years, $54 million) and centerpiece Nikola Jokic (five years, $148 million).

Denver has cemented spots in their entire lineup, having just promised the starting small forward job to Barton to get him to re-sign with the team —but that could go all go to scratch if James shows some interest, as no deals will be signed until after the NBA's moratorium is over on July 6.

A lineup of Jamal Murray, Gary Harris, James, Paul Millsap, and Jokic could bring terror into the Western Conference, as one of the most-well rounded starting fives in the league.

While James would only be playing alongside one budding star in Jokic, the other three pieces are more-than-capable contributors, which after all, could be the best option to contend right away.
