Gun control has been a persistent issue in the United States. While the 2nd Amendment of the Constitution states that U.S. citizens have the right to bear arms, gun control has become a serious dilemma in the country.

Random and massive shootings with deadly weapons have victimized thousands of innocent people throughout the country, and many people are starting to call for reform of the country's gun laws. Apparently, the discussion has spilled over to the NBA after Utah Jazz swingman Thabo Sefolosha commented on the effectiveness of America's gun control policy.

“I grew up in Switzerland, where gun control legislation is very strict, and I can assure to you that the system is working. People rarely die from gun wounds. Hard to understand why it is such a debate in the US to change things, because the system clearly doesn’t work.”

Obviously, the gun laws in Switzerland and the United States vary tremendously. Both countries are not the same, and it would be foolish to mimic another country in regards to gun reform, rather than formulating a solution here.

In any case, Denver Nuggets head coach Mike Malone had a similar view about gun possession in the United States, per Gina Mizell of the Denver Post.

Nuggets coach Michael Malone referenced this tweet from Sefolosha while speaking out about gun control. “I understand this country was founded on certain rights and the right to bear arms, but assault rifles? How many times are we gonna see the same story and nothing changes?”

Some people may ask that the NBA stay out of political affairs and focus on basketball. However, it's an enlightening sight that the NBA family is concerned about issues more important than basketball.
