An Octopath Traveler Mobile Game called Octopath Traveler Champions of the Continent is now in Closed Beta Testing for iOS and Android.

Octopath Traveler is one of the marquee titles from the Nintendo Switch. A lot of people became big fans of the game, and now it's turning out that Square Enix isn't done yet for the franchise. While a full-fledged sequel isn't in the works yet, Square Enix is instead putting its weight behind a new Octopath Traveler mobile game. Titled “Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent,” the new mobile game follows the same gameplay as the Switch game, except with free-to-play elements and in-app purchases integrated.

Champions of the Continent first came out for Japanese mobile users in 2020, and its success prompted Square Enix to bring it to the West as well. For sure there will be fans who'd be disdainful at the idea of having microtransactions implemented on a JRPG. If that's something you're concerned about, the good news is the game is currently in its closed beta testing phase. Part of the reason why the game has to go through this stage is the fact that different markets react to monetization in varying degrees. So, join the CBT and give your honest feedback to the developers to let them know that microtransactions will not fly in the west, especially when it comes to JRPGs.

Octopath Traveler: Champions of the Continent serves as a prequel for the Nintendo Switch title, and will be available on both iOS and Android devices.
