The Minnesota Timberwolves took on an intense Game 6 matchup with the Denver Nuggets. Minnesota led early; however, the team was hit with a worrisome Anthony Edwards injury during the third quarter. Edwards landed hard and appeared to aggravate his tailbone. The star guard stayed down for a bit as he attempted to shake the ailment off.

Edwards later went to the locker room. Hopefully, the hard fall will not cause any problems for him. He has been vital to the Timberwolves playoff run. The 22-year-old has averaged 30.6 points, 5.3 rebounds, 4.9 assists, and 1.5 steals through nine postseason games. In addition, he has hit 42.2 percent of his three-pointers.

The Timberwolves massively benefit from Edwards' stellar scoring ability. He led Minnesota through a dominant first-round sweep of the Phoenix Suns. Edwards and the Timberwolves were firing on all cylinders, but things have not been as easy against the Nuggets.

After taking a 2-0 early series lead, Nikola Jokic willed his team to three straight victories to take a 3-2 advantage. Minnesota entered Game 6 with their backs against the wall, and they rose to the challenge. The Timberwolves got out to a commanding lead halfway through the game and maintained their momentum.

If everything continues to go well, the Timberwolves will have a chance to advance to the third round of the NBA Playoffs in Game 7 on May 19th.

Minnesota could have a steeper challenge if Anthony Edwards' injury causes any lingering problems. Yet, knowing him, he will do all he can to make sure his body is recovered to contribute. Edwards does not have to do it alone. He has stout help from a variety of contributors who take the T-Wolves to the next level.

Timberwolves ban together against Nuggets to force Game 7

Minnesota is one of the deepest teams in the NBA. In addition to Anthony Edwards, the team boasts a handful of reliable scorers and defenders. Namely, Rudy Gobert anchors the team. He won his fourth Defensive Player of the Award after the 2023-24 regular season.

His length and skill make it thought for opposing offensive players to score. Few players can resist Gobert's presence, and Nikola Jokic seems to be one of them. Jokic had a standout performance in Games 4 and 5. The reigning MVP scored 35 and 40 points, respectively. Furthermore, Gobert revealed he and his team's challenges in guarding the star center after the Timberwolves 112-97 Game 6 loss.

“The second half, we got a little too demoralized and we can’t have that,” Gobert said, per The Athletic. “I think we have to be mentally tough, individually and collectively, to be able to keep playing our game and not let anything that happened in the game affect the way we play and the way we…affect our confidence and the way we compete.”

Gobert and the Timberwolves improved their defensive resistance on Jokic in Game 6. He ended the game with 22 points. Moreover, he was not able to help Denver overcome their massive deficit. Minnesota's standout effort will be key going into a must-win Game 7 on Sunday. With will and execution, the Timberwolves can win the series and get to the Western Conference Finals.
