Indiana Pacers forward Doug McDermott has interest in participating in the 3-point contest during NBA All-Star weekend in Chicago.

McDermott said that he has not been asked to join the field, but he would welcome an invite. The former Creighton star also suggested it would be fun to partake in the festivities in 2021 in Indianapolis, via Scott Agness of The Athletic.

“I haven’t been asked,” he said last week. “I would do it. I feel like I’ve shot it pretty well in this league, so it’d be fun to do it someday. If it’s not this year, it’d be kind of cool to do it here next year in Indy. Either/or is cool. If they reached out, I’d definitely do it, though.”

McDermott has been a terrific volume shooter for the Pacers off the bench. The 28-year-old is averaging an even 4.0 triples per game, converting on nearly 43 percent of those attempts. It is a pretty impressive output for a guy that averages under 21 minutes per contest.

The journeyman played for four organizations before arriving in Indiana prior to the 2018-19 campaign, but he seems to have found a home with the Pacers. McDermott notched 77 appearances last season, and he has played in all 42 games this year.

McDermott also provides the Pacers with some much-needed perimeter shooting. Most of Indiana's success is predicated on controlling the paint through the likes of Domantas Sabonis and T.J. Warren, but McDermott gives Indiana's playmakers a vital outlet.

The participants for the 2020 3-point contest are still unknown, but it would not be a surprise to see Doug McDermott among those involved, especially given that Golden State Warriors stars Stephen Curry and Klay Thompson will be unable to compete due to injury.
