The Indiana Pacers are undergoing some big changes this offseason, especially after trading Malcolm Brogdon to the Boston Celtics. Hopefully, the front office can bring in some exciting young talent, as the franchise faces a rebuild. With that in mind, it sounds like the organization made a nice underrated signing, as the Pacers bring back Jalen Smith.

According to Shams Charania, Smith agreed to a two-year deal to remain in Indiana. Although he is not a big-name player, the front office retains an exciting young power forward who is developing his game. He's flashed potential periodically and could have a chance to prove himself as a consistent option for the Pacers.

After playing a limited role with the Phoenix Suns, Jalen Smith was eventually traded to Indiana where he improved his production immediately. Last year, Smith increased his points per game average from 6.0 to 13.4 once he joined the Pacers. Additionally, he also became a more reliable rebounder, averaging 7.6 per game. His increased playing time surely helped, but the franchise likes what they've seen from him so far.

A two-year deal is perfect for both the Pacers and Jalen Smith. It gives Indiana the time to develop him. On top of that, a short deal favors Smith right now because if he continues to improve, he'll be in line for a bigger payday down the road. We'll see how it plays out, but as of right now, this should be viewed as a brilliant signing for Indiana.

Look for the Pacers to spend time with Jalen Smith and help him develop his game. If they can un-tap his potential, then Indiana's bounce-back could be much faster than anticipated.
