Veteran Cory Joseph isn't exactly known for his long-distance shooting. But after this Hail Mary to end the third quarter, maybe the Indiana Pacers' back-up point guard should be.

With the team down 88-78 to the Oklahoma City Thunder with just seconds left, the Pacers inbounded the ball to Joseph. What happened next, via NBA TV on Twitter:

Joseph took one dribble, a couple of steps and chucked the ball towards the hoop. He banked it in for the buzzer-beating three-pointer, bringing Indianapolis to within seven.

One could argue that Joseph's miraculous shot made the difference. The Pacers came back to win the game by only two points, 108-106.

This season, Joseph has been used primarily as a bench player for Indianapolis. Entering Thursday, the 27-year-old was averaging 7.1 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 3.9 assists while shooting 43.4%. He has averaged only 25.5 minutes per game for the Pacers. On Thursday night, he totaled just the three points and three rebounds in his 22 minutes.

The Pacers comeback win was huge. It meant they pulled a half-game ahead of the Philadelphia 76ers and now hold sole possession of the third seed in the Eastern Conference. Meanwhile, the Thunder fell a half game behind the Houston Rockets and into the fourth seed in the West.

According to ESPN's BPI Playoff Odds, entering Thursday, the Pacers had a greater than 99.9% chance of making the postseason, but only a 1.4% chance of winning the championship. Comparatively, the system gave the Thunder a 2.8% chance of winning it all.
