The Green Bay Packers had a golden opportunity to add a massive piece to their offense late in the season. With Aaron Rodgers and the team already considered a favorite to win the Super Bowl this season, they had a chance to add Odell Beckham Jr. to an already talented offense. However, that opportunity slipped away on Thursday afternoon when Beckham announced that he was signing with the Los Angeles Rams on a one-year contract.

Since being released by the Cleveland Browns, Beckham's first priority was reportedly finding a way to land with the Packers. That did not change throughout the entire process. In fact, he still felt that way even when the Rams came in late to make a push to sign him.

Despite his preference to sign with the Packers, there was a disturbing reason that he ended up with the Rams instead of Green Bay.

According to a report from NFL insider Jordan Schultz, Odell Beckham Jr. never felt like the Packers were truly “all in” on signing him. If that is the case, it speaks to a long-term issue that Green Bay has had with bringing in elite talent.

Why is this so disturbing for the Packers with a chance to impact them long-term? Quite simply, this is exactly the kind of issue that Aaron Rodgers talked about in his issues with Green Bay throughout the offseason.

Rodgers was very vocal about his top priority being to win another Super Bowl. He also made it clear that he felt the Packers have done a bad job of either keeping talent or bringing talent on board to help win. That could very well be the issue once again in this situation.

Beckham wanting to sign with the Packers up until finally deciding to sign with the Rams is a big statement. Green Bay would have had a lethal offense with Davante Adams and Odell Beckham Jr. leading the way. Aaron Rodgers would have had the best wide receiver duo in the entire NFL, assuming Beckham turned things around with a change of scenery.

Not only is there a chance that Rodgers will be unhappy with the team not being all-in on signing a talent like Beckham, but there should also be a concern that Adams will be upset. He was vocal on Wednesday about having his hopes “very high” that the Packers would be able to land Beckham. Adams even talked with Beckham about joining forces in Green Bay.

When the two best players on the Packers both want to win and the team's superstar wide receiver is openly stating that he wants to play with a player, that should be a sign for the franchise to go for it. Add on that player wanting to sign with the Packers and the team still not finding a way to get it done looks even worse.

The future of Aaron Rodgers in Green Bay has been questioned heavily over the last year. Also, Adams is set to hit free agency this offseason and has been very non-committal about his own future with the Packers. Could this situation come back to haunt Green Bay in their attempts to retain both of their best players?

Fans can only hope that it won't come up in the future. But, it seems likely that this could be another issue in the long line of problems that both Rodgers and Adams have had with the Packers. Only time will tell, but this is a very disappointing outcome for Green Bay when they had an excellent opportunity to add an elite talent once again.
