The Green Bay Packers are interested in free-agent tight end Austin Hooper, and if Hooper's comments about the Packers' personnel are any indication, the feeling may be mutual.

In a story published by Vaughn McClure of ESPN.com, Hooper complimented Green Bay quarterback Aaron Rodgers, calling him one of the best to ever do it. In addition, Hooper expressed his fondness for Packers head coach Matt LaFleur, with whom Hooper is familiar from spending one year with him on the Atlanta Falcons back in 2016:

“When he was a coach in Atlanta, I really liked Matt LaFleur as a person,” Hooper said. “I wasn't a quarterback, so I couldn't really see his coaching style as much. But he definitely helped me out as a younger player. For that, I'll always be grateful. He's a good guy; really likable person.”

As Hooper noted, LaFleur served as a quarterbacks coach for the Falcons during Hooper's rookie year, so it wasn't like Hooper dealt with him all that much, but at the very least, he has some frame of reference when it comes to LaFleur as an individual.

Hooper has spent the first four years of his career in Atlanta and has blossomed into one of the NFL's best tight ends over the last couple of seasons, making back-to-back Pro Bowl appearances in 2018 and 2019.

The 25-year-old is coming off of a campaign in which he hauled in 75 receptions for 787 yards and six touchdowns in 13 games, marking the most productive season of his NFL tenure.

Green Bay is in desperate need of a tight end, and Hooper will be the best one available once free agency begins next week.
