The Green Bay Packers suffered from a severe lack of safety depth last year, and with the 2019 free agency class looking surprisingly deep in that position, many are beginning to hear rumblings that the Packers will be keeping a close eye on how players move once free agency opens.

According to CBS Sports’ Jason La Canfora (via 247 Sports), the Packers are one of “a few teams” that seem to be tracking what happens to the free agent safeties once things kick off next week.

“One agent for a prominent safety told me he had a legit 20 meetings with teams at the combine; I'm not a math major, but that's more than half the league,” La Canfora said. “And many of these teams seemed particularly motivated. The Colts, Raiders, Packers, and Giants have also been closely monitoring this market. This is going to be one of the early storylines of free agency next week.”

Besides the obvious big names in Earl Thomas and Landon Collins, the safety class of free agents for this year feature numerous other starting caliber players, any of whom would likely serve the Packers very well in their next season.

Looking to bounce back after a disappointing 6-9-1 season, the Packers will head into a new season with a brand new coach, a mostly revamped offensive coaching group, and the draft capital and salary cap space to improve their team immensely. Assuming that Green Bay is looking for help in the safety department, they should have absolutely no problem signing at least one player who could help make an immediate impact.
