Clay Matthews was one of the faces of the Green Bay Packers throughout his entire career, but everything changed this offseason. After a rough season last year, the Packers allowed Matthews to walk in free agency. He ended up signing with the Los Angeles Rams, but no one knew Green Bay's level of interest in bringing him back.

Now, that information has been released and it may not be what many had thought.

According to a report from Michael Silver of the NFL Network, Matthews wanted to return to Green Bay, but the franchise did not share his feelings.

“What was communicated back to him was ‘It's okay, man. We're not interested.'”

Brian Gutekunst and the Packers went out and signed both Za'Darius Smith and Preston Smith this offseason. They also drafted Michigan pass rusher Rashan Gary with the No. 12 overall pick in the 2019 NFL Draft. It was obvious that Green Bay wanted to get younger and faster on defense.

Matthews will always be remembered by fans in Green Bay and will go down as one of the best Packers from this era of football. He was a superstar at one point in his career, but simply has not performed up to the level that the team needed the last couple of years.

Last season with the Packers, Matthews recorded 43 total tackles to go along with 3.5 sacks and a forced fumble.

Thankfully, Matthews found himself an excellent landing spot with the Rams. He will be utilized well and will be asked to get to the quarterback like he has done throughout his entire career.
