The Green Bay Packers have taken an aggressive approach to overhauling a defense that time and again over the years failed to provide superstar quarterback Aaron Rodgers with even the marginal support needed for the team to contend for the Super Bowl. Now, after an expensive haul in free agency and opportunistic approach to the first round of the NFL draft, the Packers are loaded with as much young defensive talent as any team in football.

ESPN's Mike Clay listed Green Bay's strong crop of young defenders on twitter Friday morning.

General manager Brian Gutekunst made it clear from the outset of free agency that the Packers, known for exercising caution in the offseason, would employ a much different strategy leading up to the 2019 season. The team signed outside linebacker Za'Darius Smith away from the Baltimore Ravens with a four-year, $66 million deal; got fellow pass-rusher Preston Smith from the Washington Redskins with a four-year, $52 million contract; and inked former Chicago Bears safety Adrian Amos to a four-year, $36 million deal all in the opening days of free agency.

Despite already having acquiring three long-term starters on defense this offseason, Green Bay went into the first round of Thursday's draft knowing it still wanted to address that side of the ball. Michigan's Rashan Gary might have been a reach at No. 12, but should he fulfill his potential, has the tools to emerge as a game-wrecking force against both the pass and run. Shortly thereafter, the Packers traded the No. 30 overall pick and two fourth-round selections to the Seattle Seahawks, moving up to No. 21 and taking Maryland safety Darnell Savage.

It remains to be seen if Green Bay's wealth of young talent will coalesce into an upper-echelon defense. If the unit struggles this season, though, Packers fans shouldn't fret – it has ample time to grow and get better together.
