Packers HC Mike McCarthy sees ‘a bright future’ for QB DeShone Kizer

Green Bay Packers head coach Mike McCarthy, the same man who's developed all-time great Aaron Rodgers, sees a "bright future" for DeShone Kizer in the NFL.

Since being traded to the Green Bay Packers earlier this offseason, head coach Mike McCarthy has continued to speak quite highly of new addition quarterback DeShone Kizer.

Although his time with the Cleveland Browns had quickly flamed out, the Packers look to present a unique opportunity for Kizer in this next chapter of his career. With that in mind, McCarthy once again boasted about the young quarterback stating that he has a bright future ahead of him in the NFL, according to Rob Demovsky of ESPN.

“I think he has exceptional arm talent,” McCarthy said of Kizer. “What we’re asking him to do is, particularly the footwork and just how he fits the scheme, and how he operates is brand new to him. That always excites me, because when you see that guy has no experience or background but has the ability, to me that’s an opportunity for a lot of growth. So I think he has a bright future.”

It is quite clear that the Packers believe that snagging Kizer helped them land a young promising quarterback that could be developed into a viable starting quarterback. In his rookie campaign with Cleveland, he struggled at times throwing the ball with accuracy as he threw twice as many interceptions (22) to touchdown passes (11) while completing just 53.6 percent of his passes for 2,894 yards in 15 games played.

There may be some notable holes in Kizer's game, but he has a chance to learn first hand from one of the league's best quarterbacks in Aaron Rodgers that could help get his development and career on the right path.

He has the physical tools to become a steady player under center with a strong arm and size at 6-foot-4 and 233 pounds. It's just a matter of him altering his mechanics and footwork that comes with the process.

With McCarthy firmly supporting him, it could bode well this next chapter of Kizer's brief NFL career in Green Bay.
