Brett Hundley put up decent numbers during Monday Night Football. He completed 26 of 38 passes for 245 yards, ran for a touchdown and didn’t have any turnovers. But those numbers are minus some context. The sort that doesn't paint the Green Bay Packers quarterback in as nice a light. Good thing head coach Mike McCarthy had a postgame presser to do that for him.

I believe in Brett, and that’s not just a press conference statement,” McCarthy said. “He’s got what it takes. He has it in his body, he has it in his mind, and he definitely has the heart.”

For what it is worth, while Mike McCarthy might actually believe everything he said, that is literally a press conference statement. He said it during an actual press conference.

Alas, we know what he meant. The sentiment was that, he wasn't only saying it for the sake of keeping things neat around the Green Bay locker room. He “means” it.

Anyway, the Packers have been, as expected, a debacle since Aaron Rodgers went down with an injury that likely cost him the season. Green Bay has lost three straight games and don't really have much reason to be optimistic moving forward.

That being said, that is exactly why McCarthy said what he said after the game. It isn't like he could come out to tell the press that Green Bay's season is officially over because Rodgers is out and the team lost three straight games.

Lost in all this hoopla, Brett Hundley was once considered a great pro prospect during his time with UCLA. It is probably best to see what he has now, as the Packers can either use him as trade bait in the future or come to the realization that he might not be that good.

Only by allowing him to play, though, will be the way they find that stuff out.
