True draft experts weren't the only ones less than thrilled with the Green Bay Packers' selection of Rashan Gary at No. 12 overall in the first round of the 2019 NFL Draft. FOX Sports personality Skip Bayless also believes general manager Brian Gutekunst and company erred by taking the ultra-talented, marginally-productive edge defender in the top half of the first round.

“I do NOT love Rashan Gary's motor,” he tweeted on Thursday night. “Never seemed to care enough. Not enough fire. Shaky pick by Pack.”

Gary, the consensus top prospect in the high school class of 2016, had just nine and-a-half sacks during his three years at Michigan, failing to live up to his recruiting hype despite twice being named First-Team All-Big 10. At 6-foot-4, 277 pounds, he showed out at the NFL combine with a 4.58 40-yard dash, 38 inch vertical leap, and 26 bench press reps, a performance that both cemented his status as one of the draft’s best overall athletes and sparked more questions about his lack of production for the Wolverines.

After the draft, Gutekunst pushed back on the notion that Gary didn't affect the game in college to the extent he should have, insisting the tape paints a more accurate portrayal of his impact than raw numbers and dismissing concerns about his motor.

“I know a lot has been made about his production. If you watch the tape, he affected the passer. He affected the game. At times he wrecked it. He’s a premier athlete. He has an exceptional motor on the field,” he said of Gary, per Zach Kruse of Packers Wire.

Clearly, the Packers believe Gary will be a far better pro than his basic college statistics suggest. Only time will tell if they're right.
