Green Bay Packers running back Ty Montgomery will have to spend the rest of the season on the sidelines. According to Rob Demovsky of ESPN, the 24-year old tailback has been put on the injured reserve list by the Packers due to injuries to his wrist and ribs, effectively ending the Stanford product’s year.

Montgomery was absent in each of the Packers’ last two games, though he was listed as having only a rib injury last week.

He missed Week 5’s game against the Dallas Cowboys after cracking his rib in a Week 4 contest against the Chicago Bears. Montgomery, however, sustained the wrist injury prior to that, and it was only added to his list of ailments just this week.

Originally a wide receiver before he was converted by the Packers into a running back, Montgomery finishes his 2017-18 season with 273 rushing yards and three rushing scores. While he’s played in just eight games this year, he still leads the Packers in carries with 71.

Losing Montgomery for good means that Green Bay will rely on the pair of Aaron Jones and Jamaal Williams to propel the team’s ground attack. The Packers are just 21st in the NFL in rushing yards per game, but they won’t shy away from feeding the ball to their backfield, especially with star quarterback Aaron Rodgers still on the IR.

The 5-6 Packers get the Tampa Bay Buccaneers at home this coming Sunday.
