The Green Bay Packers will be heading into the NFL offseason looking to find a new head coach. There is a chance that Joe Philbin could end up getting the job, but that isn't looking very likely. Former Indianapolis Colts and Detroit Lions head coach Jim Caldwell is the first name that has been reported to have had an official interview with the Packers.

According to a report from Pro Football Talk, the Packers interview Caldwell for their head coaching vacancy.

Needless to say, this isn't the news that fans in Green Bay were wanting to see. Caldwell is not a bad head coach, but he is not the kind of guy that can turn the Packers back into Super Bowl contenders.

In his seven seasons as an NFL head coach, Caldwell has compiled a 62-50 record. He helped take the Colts to Super Bowl XLIV, where they ended up losing to the New Orleans Saints. Many don't give Caldwell a ton of credit for reaching the Super Bowl, as Tony Dungy was the man who built that team.

During his four years with the Lions, Detroit made the playoffs twice. Unfortunately, they lost in the Wild Card in each of those two years.

Green Bay is not too far away from getting back into serious contention. Aaron Rodgers and company have shown flashes this season and they have a very solid all-around roster. There are a few areas that need major improvement, but the most important need is a new head coach and offensive scheme.

Caldwell may be a candidate for the job, but it would be surprising if he ends up being the guy they hire. Plenty of other names should have opportunities for interviews with the Packers, especially once the regular season ends.
