For the third season in a row, the Carolina Panthers missed the train to the NFL Playoffs. And in each of those seasons, they finished with exactly five wins and no better than third in the NFC South division standings. Matt Rhule had sat on a warm seat for most of the 2021 NFL season, but his job as head coach of the team seems to be safe for the time being.

The same can't be said about some of the other Panthers coaches, however.

The #Panthers have fired OL coach Pat Meyer, special teams coach Chase Blackburn and DL coach Frank Okam, source say.

After a horrible 2-12 stretch to finish the season, the Panthers clearly needed changes to happen, and it's just unfortunate for the aforementioned coaches that their jobs got sacrificed. The Panthers started the season like a house on fire, winning three games in a row, though, those came at the expense of teams that didn't make the playoffs.

An anemic offense and a defense that fell off a cliff slowed the Panthers down. Rhule will have an entire offseason to get Carolina ready for what he should hope to be a redeeming campaign in 2022.
