The Carolina Panthers have hit a rough patch recently. After looking good to start the season, the offense has struggled as Sam Darnold just doesn't look like the starting-caliber quarterback Matt Rhule was hoping for. The front office signed Cam Newton to the team and he's ready to make an impact against the Arizona Cardinals.

According to Ian Rapoport, Cam Newton is officially active for the Panthers game against the Cardinals. He's had minimal practice, but Newton has kept himself ready in case a team needed him. It just so happened Carolina was the franchise who came calling for the former MVP.

The Sam Darnold experiment didn't work and it looks like he might become a career backup. However, this is a huge moment for Newton, as he's still just 32 years old and could rejuvenate his career with the Panthers.

It's a rather humorous story on how Cam Newton came back to the  Carolina Panthers. According to Rapoport, “head coach Matt Rhule called Newton, who was handling Taco Tuesday-related matters and didn't answer. He later recalled seeing the name on the caller ID: ‘Matthew Rhule' and thought someone was messing with him.”

Regardless, the Panthers seem confident enough in Newton to give him a role so quickly. The Cardinals will be without Kyler Murray and DeAndre Hopkins, so this is a big game for Carolina. This team needs a win to get back on track for their playoff hopes.

We'll see how involved Newton will be on Sunday. The main goal is for him to be the starting quarterback in Week 11, as PJ Walker is listed as the starting quarterback against the Cardinals. Even so, it's smart of Matt Rhule to find ways to get Newton involved and comfortable with the offense.
