The Carolina Panthers are releasing two-time Super Bowl champion wide receiver Torrey Smith, per ESPN's Adam Schefter.

Smith, 30, arrived in Carolina in a trade completed with the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for cornerback Daryl Worley. The six-foot wideout only appeared in 11 games for the Panthers during the 2018 NFL season, starting in six. Smith would finish the year recording just 17 receptions for 190 yards, scoring two receiving touchdowns.

Prior to his stint with the Panthers, Smith was a second-round selection of the Baltimore Ravens in the 2011 draft. Smith finished with more than 800 receiving yards in three of his first four years in the league with the Ravens, recording 1,128 yards with Baltimore in 2013.

After a small drop-off in productivity in 2014—with Smith still appearing all 16 of his team's regular-season games during his first four NFL seasons—he signed a five-year, $40 million contract with NFC West franchise San Francisco 49ers.

Smith appeared in 28 games for the 49ers for two years, including a league-leading 20.1 yards per reception in 2015, before San Francisco released the Maryland product in March prior to the 2017 season following a concussion sustained in December 2016.

Smith headed back east, however, by signing a three-year deal with the Philadelphia Eagles. With Philly, Smith won his second Super Bowl title, catching five receptions in the Big Game.

The Panthers will look to surround star quarterback Cam Newton with top talent at the receiving positions.

After end-of-preseason cuts, Carolina current has former New England Patriots wideout Chris Hogan, Curtis Samuel, D.J. Moore, and Jarius Wright.
