The Carolina Panthers have signed linebacker Jared Norris to a two-year contract, according to Ian Rapoport of NFL Network.

Norris played in just three games this past season after suffering a toe injury that landed him on the injured reserve list. He logged just one tackle when he was on the field.

The 25-year-old, who played his collegiate football at the University of Utah, went undrafted but signed with the Panthers in May 2016.

He played in 14 games during his rookie campaign but was limited to a special teams role and did not record a tackle. The following season, he appeared in 11 contests and did not register a statistic.

Norris played four seasons at Utah, and in his final season with the school, he finished with 87 tackles, 6.5 tackles for loss, a sack, a couple of forced fumbles, a fumble recovery and five passes defended.

His best season, however, came during his junior campaign, when he racked up 116 stops, 13 tackles for loss and four sacks.

He scarcely played at all during his freshman year, and in his sophomore season, he totaled 64 tackles, 4.5 tackles for loss, a couple of sacks and a pair of forced fumbles.

The Panthers are coming off of a 2018 campaign in which they won seven games. They began the season 6-2 and appeared to be a contender in the NFC, but they the lost seven games in a row, largely due to the fact that Cam Newton experienced shoulder issues throughout the second half of the year.

Still, Carolina has made the playoffs four of the last six years.
