Even after being out for nearly a year due to a quad injury, Carolina Panthers cornerback Stephon Gilmore is still performing like one of the more formidable defensive backs in the NFL today.

Gilmore featured in his first career game with the Panthers in their 19-13 road win over the Atlanta Falcons. This came after he made his first appearance in practice with the team two weeks ago, and after he was just activated off of the PUP list on Saturday. There were some rust concerns for his first in-game action of the season, but he wound up making the most out of his time on the field.

For one, Gilmore sealed the win for the Panthers following a pivotal fourth quarter interception off of quarterback Matt Ryan. Gilmore shadowed Falcons rookie tight end Kyle Pitts on a route, and he not only managed to get in front of him, but he also secured the interception with relative ease.

Gilmore also finished the contest with two tackles recorded.

Overall, it was not a flawless performance by the Panthers on both sides of the ball, but at the least, they clinched a crucial win over an NFC South rival to snap their four-game losing streak.

The Panthers now turn their attention to a Week 9 home clash with the New England Patriots, which may be a ‘revenge game' for Gilmore against his former team.
