Carolina Panthers running back Christian McCaffrey isn’t known to back down from a challenge since he joined the NFL three seasons ago.

Now that he faces another challenge after suffering a high ankle sprain in the Panthers’ 31-17 loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, the running back plans to use the same approach to overcome this latest challenge. When asked how he feels that the injury will likely sideline him for four to six weeks, the 24-year old remained in high spirits, according to Joe Person of The Athletic:

“They say four to six weeks. Well, that's a challenge to me. And I'm gonna attack it, like I attack anything else.”

Christian McCaffrey left the game against the Buccaneers in the fourth quarter after scoring his second touchdown after a seven-yard run to cut Tampa Bay’s lead to 21-14.

Panthers head coach Matt Rhule, however, revealed that the 2019 First Team All-Pro member suffered a high ankle sprain a couple of players earlier. McCaffrey finished the game with 18 carries for 59 yards and two rushing touchdowns, while adding four receptions and 29 receiving yards.

Without Christian McCaffrey, Carolina went on to lose to the Buccaneers to drop to 0-2 following a 34-30 loss to the Las Vegas Raiders in their first game to open the 2020 season. They hope to win their first game of the season when they face the Los Angeles Chargers next week.

However, they will have to do it without McCaffrey, who signed a four-year, $64 million contract extension to remain with the Panthers in the offseason, making him the highest-paid running backing in NFL history.
